EJ Takes Off Across the 'Ditch'
Whenuapai Royal New Zealand Air Force Base
A Show Force
Around twelve months ago, EJ put on a real show of force in an annual trade exhibition – the New Zealand Airports Show in Wellington. In conversations with representatives from the Royal New Zealand Air Force, we established that there was an ongoing problem in some of the airport infrastructure, namely the existing trench grates.
This was a problem we had resolved for airports around the world. EJ demonstrated to the RNZAF representatives that being a global company, we have the resources in designers, engineers and manufacturing plants to produce first class products that can last for decades, maintenance free.
EJ trench grates and frames are renowned for their longevity in withstanding the constant pounding they endure from today’s heavier aircraft, not to mention the years of harsh weather conditions.
"Commercial and military airports and ports are deploying EJ product because it can comfortably withstand everything that heavy aircraft and years of harsh conditions can throw at them". Simon Bottomley, General Manager EJ in Australia
The EJ Armory Deployed
On this occasion, the replacement of failing existing trenches included 470 metres of new cast iron trench grates and frames in Class G at 300mm width. This is as tough as it gets. A fully laden 777 can safely and confidently rumble across these extremely strong, durable trench grates, year after year, decade after decade.
Additionally, the construction team specified complementary kits of EJ sump grates and frames. These 900mm x 900mm grates were also specified in the Class G rating, logically. It was vital that such long-lasting, hard wearing trench and sump grates be deployed along the taxiways at Whenuapai Air Force Base. Failure of such infrastructure could be devastatingly expensive in aircraft repair, not to mention costly to replace when damaged.
On airports and seaports around the world, EJ Class G trench and sump grates and frames are the choice of engineers and construction specifiers. In air force facilities across Australia – Amberley, Williamtown, Edinburgh and Tindal – aerial war-craft will safely roll across the EJ badge for decades to come. It’s the kind of trust you can place in EJ product.
