The Problem

A major rain or tidal event can overload your storm/sewer systems, which can dislodge manhole covers. This creates a dangerous safety hazard for both motorists and pedestrians, especially if the area is submerged under flood waters and not visible.  This is also a serious concern for municipalities. The video below shows an example of underground water pressure at two locations powerful enough to remove the standard manhole cover.

The Solution

EJ has developed a manhole access assembly specifically designed to solve this problem. The STORMSURGE Access Assembly allows water to flow during a storm surge or backflow event. The cover can lift up to 16°, enabling water to flow out and relieve the pressure. The locking arm and hinge restrain the cover and allow it to automatically re-seat itself after the pressure returns to normal.
